1. Personal data

Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley takes data protection, in particular the protection of personal data, very seriously.

Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley is subject to the new Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) which came into force on September 1, 2023. Compliance is a key priority for the Valley and we endeavour to ensure that all our data collection practices are informed by the “Privacy by Design” principles.

This policy is designed to inform our Valley partners and any visitors to the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley website about how we collect and process any data they provide.

2. Data controller

The data controller is a person who determines (alone or together with other members of the team) for what purpose and in what way personal data obtained by the Valley are or should be used. They are also the first point of contact for any questions relating to data protection.

For Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley, this person is Christina Senn-Jakobsen, Managing Director of Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley. Data protection requests should be sent to the following email address: info (at) sfnv.ch with subject line “SFNV data protection”.

3. The data we collect

Personal data includes all information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes items such as name, postal address, email address, phone number and online behavior.

Any personal data submitted via website contact forms will be kept strictly confidential and will only be accessed by members of the Valley team or third party providers contracted to deliver services on the Valley team’s behalf. Both team members and contractors will have received data protection training before gaining access to the data.

Website visitors may be prompted to provide the following information:

• Their email address when they sign up for our newsletters
• Their name, contact details and information about their business when they sign up to become members or Friends of the Valley.

Valley partners are also invited to submit additional information to enable the Valley team to support them in their work. This may include:

• details about their companies’ priorities to enable us to tailor our support offer accordingly.
• details about their events, job opportunities or facilities with relevant contact details to enable us to feature them on the relevant pages on our website.

All of this data will be treated confidentially and will only be used in line with the purpose specified when the form was submitted. Your details will not be passed on or sold to third parties.

In close cooperation with our hosting providers, we endeavour to protect our databases as far as possible against unauthorized access, loss, misuse or counterfeiting.

4. How we store this data

Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley will only retain personal data for as long as necessary, as specified below:

• Personal data collected as part an event registration: two years
• Personal data collected as part of a SFNV membership application: one year from when the Partner decides to leave the Valley (or immediate deletion if their application is not accepted)
• Personal data collected through the Friends of the Valley form: data will be deleted immediately, if the contact writes to info@sfnv.ch to say that they no longer wish to be a Friend of the Valley.

The Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley uses the following external service providers for data storage in connection with its partners and stakeholders:

• Google Suite – you can read their see their privacy policy, including information about Swiss requirements, here
• Airtable – you can read their privacy policy here.

Personal data will be stored and used to the extent necessary to comply with legal obligations.

5. Word Press and Infomaniak

This website is built on WordPress and hosted by Infomaniak, a Swiss hosting provider. Both WordPress and Informaniak are committed to strictly adhering to both the General Data Protection Regulation and the new Federal Act on Data Protection. When hosting the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley’s data, they are classed as “processors” under the new Federal Act on Data Protection.

6. Typeform

Membership applications are submitted using Typeform. Your data will be saved on Typeform’s server and processed by members of the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley team. Typeform has their own Privacy Policy that is prepared in accordance with the GDPR.

7. Active Campaign

The Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley newsletter is sent using “Active Campaign”, a newsletter sending platform provided by ActiveCampaign, LLC, 1 North Dearborn Street, 5th floor, Chicago, IL 60602, USA. Active Campaign has their own Privacy Policy that is prepared in accordance with the GDPR.

8. Matomo Analytics

We use Matomo analytics to monitor the performance of our website. This data may include:

• Information about your browser, network, and device

• Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website

• Your IP address

This information may also include details about your use of this website, including:

• Clicks

• Internal links

• Pages visited

• Scrolling

• Searches

• Timestamps

This data is evaluated anonymously and is only used to better understand how our audience interacts with our online content with a view to improving our content offer.

9. Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies, which are small files or pieces of text that download to a device when a visitor accesses a website. These analytics and performance cookies are used on this site only when you acknowledge our cookie banner. We use analytics cookies only to analyse the performance of our website. The data will not be used for any other purposes.

10. Your rights

All users of the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley website have the following rights:

• Right to access their data
• Right to more information about how we process their data
• Right to amend or delete their data
• Right to object to data processing
• Right to revoke their consent when this is required for the processing of personal data (for example when subscribing to the newsletter).

11. This policy

Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley reserves the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. Changes are communicated by posting a new privacy policy on this page and are effective as soon as they are published.
