Precision Nutrition in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Startup roundtable

The aim of this collaborative project is to understand the primary challenges encountered in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that can be effectively addressed through precision nutrition (PN) strategies, with the ultimate goal of facilitating the implementation of these strategies.

What

PN remains mostly confined to high-income countries (HICs) and affluent consumers, while a large portion of the population in LMICs still suffers from malnutrition.

This project aims to make the use of PN more accessible, affordable, and desirable to LMICs as an approach to tackle the most pressing nutrition challenges they are facing today.

What happened
  1. Expert opinion survey to check the relevance of the topic
  2. Workshop to define the primary target groups and nutritional challenges

Results:

  1.  Sight and Life report
  2. Summit with the Swiss nutrition, science and agriculture community to explore how we can partner for impact.
  3. Mapping of the Swiss precision nutrition ecosystem
  4. Peer-reviewed article: PN Opportunities to Help Mitigate Nutrition and Health Challenges in LMIC: An Expert Opinion Survey
