EIT Food’s flagship Global Food Venture programme is a dedicated offering to Doctoral Students across Europe working on food system challenges.

We’re excited to announce that Global Food Venture Programme of  EIT Food will support once again 50 highly-qualified PhD students from across Europe to turn their science into viable business in Food & AgTech space. Join our 4th cohort to bring your innovative research from the lab into the market!

Global Food Venture Programme offers a 6-Month curriculum designed to address the needs of aspiring entrepreneurs and early phase start-up ventures from PhD students. It comprises exciting activities like a 10-day Summer School in Entrepreneurship, 1-week Bootcamp in Business Incubation, International Bootcamp with experts from the famous Silicon Valley and individual Mobility Grants for business meetings with industry partners to validate technology feasibility and value propositions. The programme is divided in two independent stages (Stage I & Stage II), which can be completed in consecutive years or within the same one. The 2021 Stage II edition will conclude with a Final Competition Event, where students pitch their business plan in front of a jury and have the chance to win up to 10K cash Prizes for best start-up project. Participants are supported along this journey with one-on-one Business Coaching to advance start-up ideas and create solid business propositions in food & agtech space. Apply to GFVP Stages to gain knowledge & skills in business creation, expert insights, showcases, mentoring and great networking opportunities!

DNAFoil® A2 Cow Test: SwissDeCode’s Newest Product

A Swiss foodtech company is launching a rapid test that would allow dairy farms to identify A2 milk-producing cows.

SwissDeCode is launching the DNAFoil® A2 Cow Test to answer the growing demands for A2 milk testing. The rapid kit allows farmers and companies to test their cows independently to identify A2 milk-producing cows. It is a highly accurate test that uses tail hair samples from cows to detect the presence of the A1 beta-casein allele. Providing all necessary material, the all-in-one test can be performed on-site, even by non-experts. The reliable and easily-interpretable results are available in 45 minutes, including approximately 15 minutes hands-on time. This significantly shortens the time to get results compared to current analytical methods.

New Addition to the A2 Family of Tests 

The DNAFoil® A2 Cow Test is an addition to the A2 family of tests after last year’s launch of DNAFoil® A2 Cow Milk, which helps assess the purity of batches of A2 milk. By offering products that are useful to breeders, farms and processing companies, these tests can potentially secure the authenticity and transparency of a large part of the A2 milk supply chain. 

A2 Milk: A Growing Profitable Market

Dairy companies worldwide are motivated to produce A2 milk to respond to the consumer demand for a perceived healthier alternative to conventional dairy. As the interest in A2 milk grows, the milk industry faces an increasing need for proving the authenticity of the products they are offering.

By putting this powerful tool in the hands of farmers, we are helping them bring better milk products to market and enabling pure A2 supply chains and efficient herd management.

Givaudan Collaborates with Microcaps on Microencapsulation

Givaudan, a global leader in flavours, food ingredients, fragrances and active cosmetic ingredients, partnered with Microcaps to advance their innovative ideas.

A company over 250 years old, Givaudan is a founding partner of MassChallenge Switzerland since 2016. The partnership aims to continue their practice of adaptability and broadening their business technologies with smart and thorough collaboration sourcing. 

While keeping an eye on all startups coming through, Givaudan works with MassChallenge on focus areas their innovation teams are looking at each year. These could include food sustainability, fragrance technology or digital expansion.

And with the startup Microcaps, a 2019 MassChallenge Switzerland finalist, the area Givaudan was focusing on was in microencapsulation for flavours and fragrances. 

Microcaps solves a common problem with microencapsulation – the trade-off between high throughput and precise particle size, a crucial factor for increased stability and controlled release. The startup has developed a novel technology that solves this problem by enabling precise microencapsulation at an industrial scale.

Givaudan’s collaboration with Microcaps is being explored to both bolster their own approach to flavour and fragrant control, as well as a service to their clients in food, beverage, nutrition and consumer products. 

Givaudan’s approach made it very compelling for us. Even before the pitch, they made it clear which Givaudan team members we were going to be working with, and this makes the pitch much more targeted and focused on Givaudan’s needs instead of us trying to intuit their goals.

FoodSparks®: A New Agrifood-tech Seed Fund by PeakBridge and EIT Food

FoodSparks®: A New Agrifood-tech Seed Fund by PeakBridge and EIT Food

PeakBridge and EIT Food have launched PeakBridge FoodSparks® SCSp, a new seed fund for European agrifood-tech startups.

Global fund manager PeakBridge joins EIT Food, the world’s biggest Agrifood Innovation Ecosystem, in launching the FoodSparks® fund. This new fund will invest in pan-European seed and early-stage startups to offer access to strategic capital and support with scaling up. It also aims to work towards innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems in food production, supply and sustainability.

The fund will offer up to €30M of investment to about ten startups per year for up to four years. The companies to receive investment will all be domiciled in Europe/EFTA and Israel, have protectable and scalable technology. They also have to align with EIT Food’s mission of making the food system more sustainable, healthy and trusted.

The startups and entrepreneurs included in the fund will also have access to advice and mentoring from the wider EIT Food community, allowing them to benefit from decades of food experience and knowledge.  

FoodSparks® will be headed by Managing Partner Yoni Glickman with some of its investors Ordway Selections, CPT Capital, Givaudan, Puratos and Gullspång Re:food. With this, portfolio companies will benefit from a wide range of potential co-investment and follow-on investment opportunities.

Funding the next generation of agrifood innovations is one of the most important steps we can take in ensuring a sustainable future for the global food system.
